We’ve been in our new house for nearly four months and are finally starting to put the finishing touches on decorating it.
I put up our first mini house tour video this week sharing a look inside our his & hers home offices and I wanted to dive deeper into the decor details in this post for anyone inspired by our at-home work spaces! We have a bunch of other mini house tours coming up so make sure you’re subscribed to my channel if you want to see the rest of the house!
My husband and I obviously live in this house full-time and work at home a majority of the time so we spend a lot of our lives in these four walls. COVID has also put a major emphasis on the sanctuary one’s home should be for them and theirs so we wanted to make this new dream home of ours a true oasis for every member of our family. Our offices have super different vibes to meet our different needs and personalities but I honestly love them both equally. Hope you’re inspired by the spaces and you can shop exact or similar items throughout the post!
Shenae’s Office
I spend A LOT of time at my computer writing blog posts, sending emails and editing videos. My brain moves a mile a minute and more often than not, it’s so clouded with bouncing ideas and to-dos that I struggle to focus. Because of this, keeping my workspace minimal AF is a must. If I have a big desk, I’ll litter it with shit. If I have tons of drawers, I’ll fill them til they can’t close. I know myself. Which is why I opted for a small 2-drawer desk that is white so it literally has to stay clean. No coffee spills can go un-wiped. No makeup can sit around on it. I’ve literally given myself as little opportunity for mess and clutter as possible because I believe a clutter-free physical space allows for more mental space and I need all the help I can get. It’s also a big enough room that I was able to include a seating area for me to enjoy my meditation, reading books and sometimes just to switch it up from my desk while working if my ass needs a comfy break! For decor, I wanted everything modern and feminine with a hint of an industrial feel. I’m very into Scandinavian design and my real out-of-home office would be in a renovated old loft or warehouse with exposed brick or concrete so I tried to marry those inspirations in this little space of mine.
JOSH’S OFFICE
My husband is a British punk through and through. He’s all grown up now but his love of music and grunge run deep. Josh is a photographer and art director who also spends a lot of time at his desk editing photos, creating mood boards and answering emails but his space has slowly begun to double as a music room as well. As soon as he started decorating, he made sure to carve out an area for his guitars, record player and vinyl collection. They are his pride and joy. But most recently, he also dedicated a large area in the corner of the office to a drum kit I gave him for his birthday. Bowie absolutely loves running wild and dancing her heart out on the open rug in the center of the room as Josh drums along to her favorite records. It’s become a multi-functional space that serves the purposes it needs to for Josh’s job and now holds really special memory-making moments for him and our daughter.
…and there you have it!
